Best Homemade Barbeque Chicken Wings Done Cooked Two Different Ways And A Bean Medley

7/24/2012

I cooked these BARBEQUED WINGS from Taste Of Home Grill It magazine two different ways on two different nights...

The first night,
I BARBEQUED them in the oven here...
Picture

A week later, I made the same wings only I grilled them on the grill according to the directions...

Oven...

OKAY! Tim preferred the grilled ones.
Me, you ask?  It's a toss-up, both tasted the same but the grilled ones had a crispier scowl on them.

Picture
So here's the fixins for these finger lickin' wings.
Whether you grill or bake them.

Okay, let's start by making the
barbeque sauce....
Picture

Chop up the onions and garlic..

Pour the ketchup into a mixing bowl, add the cider vinegar and the brown sugar...

Add the Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cayenne, cumin and mix all together...

Picture

So throw your onions and garlic into a skillet and begin sauteeing.

Picture

Add the ketchup mixture in.

Picture
Simmer uncovered
8-10
minutes.

And the aroma begins!

Oh, might I mention I had a little helper with me this day...

Picture
Little Boy Blue was playing with his new bath toys that his cool, young, hip, NOT OLD in any way Grandma and Grandpa bought him.

Next, mix up the olive oil, salt and pepper, and cider vinegar. Add this mixture into a plastic bag with the wings.
Picture

And let sit...

Picture
IN THE MEANTIME,
let me introduce you to my new vintage spoon rest I picked up at a garage sale.
Lurve it!

You want it?  Too bad.
Finders Keepers Losers Weepers.

Okay, back to the wings....

On the left we have the baking of the wings...

Get the wings set up on the baking rack.

Bake for about 15 minutes.
Picture

So then brush with some of the yummy barbeque sauce...do this TWICE. Cook for an additional 15 minutes
Picture
On the right we have the
grilling of the wings...

Go throw the wings out on the grill.

Grill for about 15 minutes.
Picture

Now brush with some of the barbeque sauce. Do this TWICE. Cook for an additional 15 minutes.
Picture

See that's it!!!
Plate up these finger lickin' babies!

The OVEN BAKED WINGS at your service!!!

With a Bean medley dish that I will be sharing.

And the wings that were put on the grill.

With some sweet potato fries if you will.

Okay, either way you make the wings,
by baking or grilling,
the barbeque sauce is
Picture

THE STAR OF THE SHOW!!!

Picture
Picture
So this barbeques sauce is worth making!!!
I guess this sauce works well on chicken breasts too!

I asked Tim why he liked the sauce so much and he responded:
1. Tangy but not too tangy.
2. Delicious.
3. Was it smoky? Cause something was real good in it.
4. Didn't give me heartburn either time.

Okay, now let's talk a little bit about the Slow Cooker Bean Medley from the same
Taste of Home Grill It magazine.
Picture
Care for a side of bean medley?

Picture

...with your chicken wings?

This Bean Medley is tangy and tasty and such a nice compliment to the barbeque chicken!
Picture

The reviews on this recipe state that it makes a good dip-like appetizer when you plate it next to a basket of crackers too.

So let's start this tangy Bean Medley recipe that goes in the slow cooker. You literally just throw stuff in the slow cooker and leave it alone! How easy is that??

Picture

So here's the fixins for this Bean Medley...

Picture

Chop up yer celery, green and red pepper and onions.

And that's all the prep work.

That's it!

Now start throwing stuff in the slow cooker...
Picture

Start with the ketchup.

Hello ketchup!!

Picture

Add the chopped veggies...

And add the brown sugar and Italian dressing...

Now add the bay leafs, vinegar, ground mustard and salt and pepper...
Picture

Now drain the beans...tons of beans!

Warning! This recipe serves 12, it makes a lot!
You may want to cut this in half for smaller families!
Add the beans and corn into the crock pot.
Picture

See,
lookin' good so far!

Picture

Mix up all the ingredients,

put a lid on it and slow cook for 5-6 hours.

Picture

This bean medley is healthy and is actually better the next day!

Picture

After 5-6 hours,

Picture

scoop up a spoonful of
beans...

Okay,
hope ya'll liked these pictures and such of the barbequed wings and bean medley!

This sweet boy used to be in my kitchen.

But then my sister-in-law came over and spotted him this past weekend.

Pretty Rooster Boy will now be scratching in the dirt in Wisconsin. On his Auntie's counter top.

Crowing away.

Cock-a-doodle-doooo!
