Week 13 2012

Bill from Bill's Big 10 Corner
has his predictions for the last week of the regular season...
Finished (4-2) last week as Indiana and Purdue let me down. Now down to the last College Pigskin Saturday, here we go ……………….

Nebraska (-14.5) at Iowa – Disappointing year for Iowa as this is the first time since 2000 they have failed to win 6 games. Nebraska (9-2) getting ready for the Big 10 championship game and should win big.

Michigan at Ohio State (-3.5) – Ohio State (11-0) to finish off undefeated season. Perhaps they should have passed on last year’s Gator Bowl?

Indiana at Purdue (-5.5) – Purdue needs a win to be bowl eligible and should cover here.

Illinois at Northwestern (-19) – Illinois to cover as NW wins by less than 19.

Wisconsin at Penn State (-3) – Penn State to cover sending Wisconsin into the Big 10 championship with two straight losses.

Michigan State (-8.5) at Minnesota– Michigan State needs a win to be bowl eligible, however Minnesota to keep it close at home and cover.

Have a safe Thanksgiving.

Once again, thanks Bill!

Have A Good

Thanksgiving All!!!!
Gobble, gobble!

Fortunate to finish (3-2) last week as I certainly should have picked Wisconsin over Indiana. Also, thought the Hawks would show better vs Purdue. Only two weeks left, here we go ……………….

Iowa at Michigan (-17) – Michigan to win breaking Iowa’s 3 game winning streak (vs Mich).

Northwestern at Michigan St (-7) – NW to keep it close and cover.

Indiana at Penn State (-18.5) – Indiana to score enough points to keep it close.

Purdue (-7) at Illinois – Purdue to cover against Illinois (0-6 in Big 10).

Minnesota at Nebraska (-20) – Nebraska to win by more than 20.

Ohio State at Wisconsin (-2.5) – Ohio State to keep it close and cover.

Looking ahead next week ………… Michigan at Ohio State

Northwestern at Michigan (-11.5) – NW to keep it close and cover on the road.

College Football Game Day Predictions

Week 8   2012

HI All and Happy Weekend!!!! Let's start with Bill from Bill's Big 10 Corner and see what he's saying about this week's
Big 10 games...
Another (3-2) week vs the spread, will try to improve to the elusive (4-1) this week. Note, it looks like Wisconsin and Michigan are tracking to the Big 10 Championship Game in Indianapolis (on Dec. 1).

Purdue at Ohio State (-19) – Let’s go with Ohio St to cover as Purdue struggles to win their first Big 10 game.

Minnesota at Wisconsin (-18) – Minnesota to keep things close on the road.

Penn St at Iowa (-3) – Penn St to cover. One team to lose their first Big 10 game.

Michigan St at Michigan (-10) – Michigan to cover at home and remain undefeated in the Big 10.

Nebraska (-5) at Northwestern – I think NW can keep this close at home so I will take the 5 points.

Looking ahead next week ………… Michigan at Nebraska

Now let's go south a bit and see what
Bevo jr. has to to say about the TEXAS game this weekend....
‘Horns seem to be struggling on both defense & offense right now – we took a ‘behind-the-woodshed’ beating from Oklahoma last Saturday. Texas was supposed to ‘back in the game’ this season after two years of turmoil, but we are NOT there yet. What’s going on, Mack??

Even though Baylor comes to Austin on Saturday, at this stage it’s hard to predict, and harder to get fired up! Texas 24 – Baylor 17. C’mon,HOOK ‘EM HORNS!

Okay, Red 5 Standing By of the UTAH Utes checked in with his thoughts on the Utah game with Oregon State.....
The Utes continue to disappoint, and they’ve turned to a true freshman QB to see if he can get the offense going. Utah’s defense – which has typically been its strength – has been mediocre so far, but the defense doesn’t stand a chance when the offense goes 3 and out time after time. Utah plays undefeated and 8th-ranked Oregon State in Corvallis Saturday night, so don’t expect the Utes to reverse their slide this week. The guys in red could be in for a long night.

Turnkey Tim with IOWA  is writing his prediction now. I will post his prediction of the game with Penn State as soon as I decipher his handwriting :):):)
Aaaaand here it is....Iowa and Penn State come into Saturday's game both 2-0 in conference play. How good is Penn State? They have won their last four-in-a-row after a horrible start. Then again, how good is Iowa? After writing off the Hawks after their loss to Central Michigan, a game in which the defense played their worst of the season. Since then, the defense has come together and played good football, one of the best three defenses in the Big 10. Penn State's defense is good, but not great. They have given up a lot of passing yards, but are stout against the run. I personally look for James Vandenberg to have one of his best games of the season. It's at home, a night game, and the crowd will be extra ready after tailgating all day. It's tough sledding at Kinnick, but Penn State will come to play.

Iowa will have to stick with the ground game to open up the play action pass. Without Mark Weisman, this will be tough. I feel if we have any success early offensively, look for Offensive Coordinator Greg Davis to dial up a few wrinkles that we have not seen yet. Offensively for Penn State, they will have their strongest test yet against Iowa's defense. They play a more traditional style offense, like Iowa, and will have to pass to win the game asIi see the Iowa defense not giving a lot of running room. I look for Iowa to bring more pressure up front this week as well, even some corner blitzes.

On a side note, turnovers and penalties will be key in this game. Iowa must play a clean game. At the end of the day I will pick the Hawks at home. Let's see if Vegas is right as they pick the Hawks to win. Turnkey Tim's pick Iowa 23 - Penn State 20.

Game Day Predictions

Week 7 2012

And as always, let's start with Bill from
Bill's Big 10 Corner
and see what his thoughts are for this week's games...
Getting better vs the spread, last week (3-2), will try to again improve this week (pointspreads in parenthesis):

Iowa at Michigan St (-10) – Let’s go with Mich St to cover as Iowa struggles in their first Big 10 road game.

NW (-3) at Minnesota – NW bounces back with a road win.

Wisconsin (PK) at Purdue – Wisconsin to win.

Illinois at Michigan (-23) – Michigan beat Purdue by 31 last week, only the weather will prevent them from doing the same vs the Illini.

Ohio St (-17) at Indiana – Ohio St runs record to (7-0) with a big win vs Indiana.

Looking ahead next week ………… Michigan St at Michigan

Okay Ace , what's going on with MINNESOTA this week....
I hate Northwestern from a betting standpoint. they are the most unpredictable team ever. When you bet on them to cover they get blasted and when you bet on them to lose well they usually cover. So I'm takin the Gophers at home to win and cover, and they are actually favored to win by 5? The times they are a changin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moving on to the Big 12, BEVO jr, what ya got for this week's TEXAS game....
OU SUX! This is the week of the Red River Shootout; the Texas vs Oklahoma game played at The Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Saturday. The Cotton Bowl is on the state fairgrounds in Big ‘D’ and this is State Fair Week, so it’s always Xtra Crazy @ the Big 12’s fiercest rivalry. Some women and children leave crying after this game – some leave feeling ecstatic. If OU loses even the men cry. Both the Longhorns and Sooners have 1 loss apiece already, so it’ll be a dogfight. Horns have to tighten up the “D” a little more and get after Landry Jones hard to win the shootout!!!Horns 42 -OU 35(boo hoo).
OU SUX!

HOOK ‘EM HORNS!

Back to the Big 10, Turnkey Tim has finally checked in!!!! on the IOWA Hawkeyes!!!
Big game tomorrow. Iowa Hawkeys vs. Michigan State Spartans. I spent this past week on a daily basis checking in with the guys young and old at Hosty's about what they think will happen this week in the ball game. They don't have to ask me what ball game, they know what I'm talking about. The answers are all the same. I could have used a tape recorder for this simple message....I don't know, it's gonna be a tough one. It's gonna be a tough one and Vandy struggles on the road. Check out exhibit J...yes not exhibit A but exhibit J as in Juggernaut. As in Mark Weisman. What happens when you cage up a bull all week, let him loose and he runs wild. Mrkr Weisman's been under wraps for two weeks. You combine that with some wrinkles that offensive coordinator Greg Davis has dialed up for this week and that equals a Hawkeye victory. Yes, the Hawks will beat Michigan State in East Lansing. Final score Iowa 20 - Michigan State 13.

More predictions will be posted if they come in :):):)

College Football Game Day Predictions

Week 6 2012

Let's start as always, with Bill with Bill's BIG 10 CORNER and see what he has to say about this week's Big 10 games...
Not very good predicting vs the spread last week (2-3), will try to improve this week (pointspreads in parenthesis):

Michigan State (-15.5) at Indiana – Let’s go with Mich St to cover in this game bouncing back from a tough loss to Ohio St.

NW at Penn St (-3) – Should be an interesting game, I am going to go with NW and the points (NW could be 6-0 for first time since 1962).

Illinois at Wisconsin (-14.5) – Illinois has not shown well this year. Wisconsin to win big.

Michigan (-3) at Purdue – Both teams have losses to Notre Dame this year. Going with Michigan to win by more than 3 based on their (11-2) record last year.

Game of the week:

Nebraska at Ohio St (-3)
– Both teams pulled out close wins last week. I am going to take Urban Meyer to win by more than 3 at home.

Looking ahead next week ………… Iowa at Michigan St

Okay now let's see what Wisconsin Steve is predicting for WISCONSIN...
WISCONSIN STEVE'S PREDICTION

WISCONSIN 35 ILLINOIS 14

There's no doubt that this isn't the same Wisconsin team we're use to seeing. They're above .500 at 3-2, but they haven't really blown anyone away. They got by Northern Iowa by only 5 points at home, and beat UTEP by 11. Both of these teams are 1-4 this season. Their other win was a scare at home against Utah State, where the Aggies missed a 37 yard field goal with seconds remaining to help Wisconsin hold on to the win. That game doesn't surprise me though. Utah State is a very solid team. You might remember me talking about them a bit after we played Louisiana Tech. Those two teams will be competing for the WAC title.

The Badgers did play better in their Big Ten opener, losing only by three points on the road to top 25 Nebraska, but it's safe to say this team is still trying to find itself. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

Illinois, quite frankly, has looked bad the last couple of weeks. The offense/special teams has made a habit of giving the ball away (nine turnovers in two games), while the defense hasn't figured out how to stop anyone. It makes you wonder when this team will be competitive enough to win a game since they haven't looked good since week one (I'm not counting that Charleston Southern thing that happened). A lot can happen in a week, so maybe a trip away from Memorial Stadium is what this team needs to finally click. Nathan Scheelhaase should no longer have any rust on him, so here's hoping he can go out there and have a solid game. He's due for one. Here's hoping we can finally get a running game going. If we have to throw 46 passes again you can forget about winning. And here's hoping our defense can either take the ball away, or give Wisconsin's punter a lot of work to do.

Unfortunately, nothing I've seen in the last two weeks makes me think all of this will happen. While one facet of the game might go well, I can't see all three parts playing well together, and you have to have that if you want to win on the road in the Big Ten.

What do you guys think? Is it bounce back time for Illinois, or do the Badgers take advantage of a struggling team? Guess we will find out soon....have a great weekend football friends......... Wisconsin Steve

Drats!! Angie didn't get these predictions posted until Saturday morning and the UTAH Utes of the Pac-12 played USC last night. Well, let's see how Red 5 Standing By did with his predicting....
The Utah Utes have now had nearly two weeks to reflect on their embarrassing loss to Arizona State, and the Pac 12 road doesn’t get any easier when the Utes host USC tonight on ESPN. The combination of some injuries and some off-season shake-ups in the offensive coaching staff have made points hard to come by for the Utes, which was expected. But the very mediocre play of the defense so far was not expected, and I look for the Trojans to control the line of scrimmage and put up some points. While the Utes might get up to play the Trojans (last year’s game in the Coliseum was decided by a last second blocked field goal), I’m not optimistic. USC 42, Utah 10.

Okay, final score last night was
USC 38   Utes 28. Not bad, not bad...

Now onto the Big 12 and TEXAS. BEVO jr, what's up with your game this week?.....
BEVO jr – Holy-moley, Austin is being invaded by a slew of Mountaineer’s! Welcome to the Big 12, W. VA.These W. Virginia fans really travel big; you can’t swing a dead cat w/o hitting someone wearing blue & gold. This game should be full of fireworks with multi-talented Geno Smith and his arsenal of TD makers in town. Longhorns have to figure a way to at least slow him down. Oh well, I’m still a ‘homer’; Texas wins 41 – 35. Hook ‘em Horns!

Okay, that's all the predictions that came in this week.

If you or someone you know has thoughts or a prediction on your favorite college team,
feel free to send 'em in to me (Angie) at salesturnkeyauto@aol.com by Thursday night of that week.
They can be five words or five paragraphs long, doesn't matter.
Just submit a fan blog name too "ie Bevo jr" and we'll get 'em posted on Friday!

Here we are!

College Football
Game Day Predictions!

Week 5 2012

Some big games this week...let's see what some fans have to say about their team...

Okay, let's start with Bill from BILL'S BIG 10 CORNER and his game day predictions....
Big 10 was 7-3 last week with Iowa, Michigan and Illinois losing. Conference play starts this week with the following match ups (pointspreads in parenthesis):

Minnesota at Iowa (-7) Minnesota has looked better than Iowa so far so I will take Minnesota and the points.

Penn St at Illinois (-1.5) Again, I’ll take the road team and the points.

Indiana at NW (-10.5) Indiana was off last week, but not enough NW to cover.

Wisconsin at Nebraska (-11.5) Wisconsin has not covered yet this year and Neby could be the best team in the Big 10 (take the Huskers).

Game of the week:
Ohio State at Michigan St (-2.5) Wow, I don’t know what to make of this game. I’ll say Michigan St pulls it together and wins by more than 2.5 at home.

Looking Forward (next week):Nebraska at Ohio State

Now see what Wisconsin Steve has to say about the WISCONSIN Badgers this weekend...
Injuries hit Badgers defensive ends hard going into biggest challenge yet.  University of Wisconsin football players are supposed to have a "next Man in" mentality when it comes to injuries.  But what happens when it becomes the next man in, for the next man in, for the next man in?  The Badgers came out of the UTEP game with injury issues involving four of their top five defensive ends, although they hope to get a couple back for Saturday  night's game at Nebraska.  The timing couldn't be worse against an explosive Cornhusker's offense averaging a Big Ten Conference best 48.5 points per game.  The edges of UW's defenses will be tested in two significant ways, in the option game and by the elusiveness of speedy junior quarterback Taylor Martinez.  It's going to be a hard pressed win for the Badgers this weekend but Wisconsin Steve still has high hopes.

BEVO jr with his *BIG 12* TEXAS team has his thoughts on the game with Oklahoma State.....
Bevo jr– Big 12 conference play starts for real this weekend; Texas at Okie State in Stillwater. Now we find out if we’ve improved or not – time to “man up” Longhorns & play some real “D”! Texas’ running game is a 2-headed beast with Bergeron & Malcolm Brown and should make the difference in winning this conference opener.Texas wins 31 – 24.

HOOK ‘EM HORNS!

Now moving back to the
*Big 10*....
Turnkey Tim with IOWA, whatch ya got on this week's game...
The upcoming game between the Minnesota Goophers and the Iowa Chokeyes in my mind is a very interesting matchup. Today, Iowa's 2-2 record has shown some glaring weaknesses of the team as a whole. Iowa has yet to play some real stout competition but then I ask what does Minnesota bring to the table. They bring a 4-0 record and confidence but if you consider last week's game against Syrasnooze, I mean Syracuse, a challenge, think again. UNI could have put up 60 points on Syracuse's defense. I say this because I think I saw Syracuse's defense sleeping on the sidelines last week making it an easy game for Minnesota. Make no mistake about it, a 4-0 record along with team confidence and the fact that they want to beat us bad because they could possibly be ranked after this if they win, make no mistake Minnesota wants to win this game bad. Coach Jerry kill has made a point to the team of the rivalry games and how they are important to win.

What does Iowa bring to the table? Iowa brings a good offensive line and the addition of a bulldozer that rushes for over 200 yards a game (Mark Wiesman). If Iowa can slow the game down and rush the ball and take advantage of the shots it will have in the passing game, then this will be a close game. Minnesota likes to bring the pressure and blitz a lot, especially against a team like Iowa that struggles in the passing game. Vandenberg has a tendency to stare down receivers and not find the open receiver. I look for both teams to be very fired up tomorrow and it should be a great game atmosphere, good weather, great game day. The only thing I don't understand is what does Vegas know that we don't.

They have Iowa by 7.

When I analyze the game, what I come up with is Minnesota 20 - Iowa 16. I hope I'm wrong.
  GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Black and Gold Girl with IOWA just sent in her short but sweet prediction. She says...
It kills me to say this, but…Minnesota by ten.

I was hoping we would hear from Ace of the MINNESOTA Gophers and we did.
Waz up Ace, I know you're on some boat somewhere in the Pacific Northwest but something more important than fun and sun and fish and beverages is your prediction of the Minnestoa-Iowa game....Ace writes in....

Seattle is a great town. Sorry Hawkeyes, the Gophs will continue to expose the weakly talented Hawks and remain undefeated an go 5-0 for the first time in a long time. Maybe since Nagurski!

Okay, this is Angie's aside....Nagurski of which Ace talks about, was a rather formidable player in his day. Here's the link to Wikipedia on this rather interesting player....click here for Nagurski

Dick Butkus, Mean Joe Greene, Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo Assist In A Curry Powder/Turmeric/Curcumin Primer and Curry Rubbed Chicken Thighs with Sorghum-Chile Glaze. Try to say THAT three times fast!

9/25/2012

Picture

Are you confused?

Picture

Does wondering about the difference between curry powder
and
turmeric
hurt your head?

Picture

Well,
it doesn't confuse
Dick Butkus, linebacker with the Chicago Bears circa 1965-1973.

Sports Illustrated put Dick on their cover in 1970 and called him
"The Most Feared Man In the Game."
Picture

He look a little scary to me.

In fact, Dick Butkus was so mean, that even Mean Joe Greene spit at him on the field in 1971 after what Mean Joe Greene considered a dirty hit on his teammate.
Mean Joe then challenged Butkus to a fight.
Picture

Mean Joe Greene was a defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the members of the famed "Steel Curtain," along with LC Greenwood, Ernie Holmes, and Dwight White.

Picture

The four of them formed a defensive line that contributed to the Steeler's dynasty of the 70's.

You may remember Mean Joe Greene from his famous Coke commercial,
one of the top commercials of all time.

But anyway, getting back to Dick Butkus, Dick grew up on the south side of Chicago.
He played college ball for Illinois.
He was drafted in 1965 by the Chicago Bears and played nine seasons in the NFL, all for the Bears, until his retirement in 1973 due to knee injuries.
Picture

PictureThat's Gale and Dick with George Halas, famed Chicago Bears coach and owner.
Dick Butkus
and
Gale Sayers,
the running back out of Kansas,

were drafted by the Bears in the same rookie class in 1965..

PictureChicagonow.com
Gale Sayers was the unanimous NFL Rookie of the Year in 1965, scoring an NFL record 22 touchdowns in one season.

Gale Sayers tied Ernie Nevers and Dub Jones for most touchdowns in a game his rookie year as well.

Picture

Here's Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers at a pre-game ceremony at Soldier field in 2009.

Picture
You remember Gale Sayers, right?

From Brian's Song....the story of the friendship between Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers.
The movie from 1970.

Billy Dee Williams played Gale.
James Caan played Brian Piccolo.

I dare you to watch this snippet and not tear up at the 1:30 mark...go ahead, try to watch this.

This was the trailer to the movie.
Did you know the movie was shown on tv first but it was so popular,
they later showed it in movie theaters?

Picture

So apparently Brian Piccolo is kneeling bottom right and
Gale Sayers is standing top right.

Doesn't that look like Dick Butkus over on the far left standing?

I could not find confirmation date on this photo and all the players.

Picture

Here's Brian Piccolo #41 and Gale #40 in action for Chicago.

Pictureredeyechicago.com in archives

And here's them off the playing field.

Brian Piccolo played college ball for Wake Forest. Even though he led the nation in rushing and scoring his senior year, he never got drafted. He walked on a as a free agent in '65 with Chicago.

Anyone need a tissue yet?? sniff.
What??? I was chopping onions. Geeez Louise.
Picture

So what does this all have to do with the difference between turmeric and curry powder?

Nothing!  See, that's the kicker.
Absolutely nothing.
But have you ever gone online and googled something
(in this case "turmeric")
and it led you to something and then to something else and then to something else after that and the next thing you know you're watching sad Brian's Song videos over and over and over
and your husband asks what you're doing and you respond that you're looking up information on turmeric
and he looks at you weird and asks, "Is that Brian's song?"

And you casually respond, "Oh, yeah. Huh."
And to get him off your sad, blubbery Brian's Song scent,
you say, "Hey, did you know Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers were drafted as rookies the same year 1965?"
And it works cuz then you listen to him tell a few stories of how Gale Sayers wanted to go to Iowa but Jerry Burns, the Iowa coach, didn't make time to meet Gale at his Iowa campus visit so Gale went to Kansas.

Now where was I???

Oh yeah, the difference between turmeric and curry powder.

Here's the deal:

PicturePicture of turmeric from Time.com
TURMERIC is an INGREDIENT in CURRY POWDER, and curry powder is simply a mixture of spices.

Curcumin is the actual compound in TURMERIC that gives TURMERIC the famous golden yellow color as well as the anti-inflammatory qualities that TURMERIC is so famous for.

CURRY POWDER originated out of India and is a BLEND of spices but the mainstays are turmeric, coriander, cumin, fenugreek (whatever the heck that is) and red pepper.

And because curry spice is so good for you, I decided to make these
Curry Rubbed Smoked Chicken Thighs with Sorghum-Chile Glaze
Picture

Picture
Can you see the delicious, healthy metabolism-boosting rub and the sweet sorghum-chile glaze?

These were absolutely fantastic!!!

Tim's exact words when he took his first bite were...in this order:
HOLY ****!

HOUSE ON FIRE!

What's making it so hot?

I need water.

 It's great!
It's awesome!

Yeah, we're the King and Queen of Always Appropriate Language-Land here.

For the record, these chicken thighs are not hot!!! They are just full of flavorful curry spice by the way!! Don't let Tim's extreme words alarm you!

And these are the fixins for

Curry Rubbed Smoked Chicken Thighs with Sorghum-Chile Glaze.

Picture
First of all, I bought several new items the other day.

In the lower right hand corner is Dried Chiles De Arbol.

See it?
This recipe called for that ground up.

Picture

So I put some of the dried chilis in my coffee grounder....

Picture

...and ground them up.

Picture

And this is ANCHO PEPPER I had to look all over heaven and earth for this at the grocery store.

So anyway, Ima give the abbreviated edition of this recipe cuz this post is already a mile long....
Picture

Pour salt and sugar  into water into a pan and bring to a boil.

I see my fine cleaning skillz are lacking again on the stove.

Picture
Let the water cool and pour over the chicken thighs in a bowl.

Refrigerate 30-60 minutes.

This is called brining the chicken.

Of which I have never done before,
I have read about,
but have never done.

Picture
Combine the ingredients of  the curry rub together...
ancho chili powder
corander
cumin
ground fennel
salt
turmeric
cardamon
ground cloves
black pepper
chile de arbol

Mix the spices all up together to form one yummy Curry Rub...

Meanwhile heat up the sorghum,
chili de arbol, and salt and pepper until it forms a glaze.

Okay, now rinse and dry off the chicken thighs and lay them out on a baking sheet, cuz you is a gonna rub these thighs with the curry rub and grill these babies.

Okay, now take the 1/4 cup canola oil and brush it on all the chicken thighs....

Okay, so throw these on the grill.

Now you know,

I DO NOT GRILL WELL AT ALL!!!
I'M TERRIBLE AT IT!!!
SEE!  TOLD YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picture
Oh well,

I just scraped the burnt stuff off the six chicken things.....

Picture

...and threw more curry spice on the scraped off, burnt chicken thighs.

Picture

Now pour some of that sorghum-chili glaze on the thighs...

Picture

Like this....

No really, do you like this?

Cuz you should.

They're gonna be THAT good.

Picture

Now go put them back on the grill.

Picture

After the thighs reach a temperature of 160, take them off the grill and drizzle a bit more glaze on these meaty pieces of goodness.

Look them over carefully and take the two best ones and plate them up...

That rub and glaze caramelizes into a nice slightly crunchy texture on the skin. The actual thigh meat absorbs the spicEs and the whole thing put together creates a finger licking, taste bud kicking experience.

Picture

I plated the thighs up with sauteed red peppers and onions and brown rice.

This is definitely one of my favorite meat dishes I've made. Ever.

As you can tell.

Okay,
have I bored you enough into oblivion that you can't wait the heck for this tortuously long post to end?

Well, that doesn't make Dick Butkus happy.
Picturechicagonow.com

In fact, he's a  little steaming that you are bored and probably confused why Angie would tie him in with curry powder, turmeric and curcumin.

He thinks everyone should know the difference between the three and cook accordingly.

But he's over it now.

However, you have some 'splaining to do to Mean Joe Greene.

Okay guys, here's the recipe....don't let all the spices dissuade you from making this!!
The printable version is after.

Ingredients

Chicken Thighs:
    1/2 cup kosher salt
    1/4 cup sugar
12 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin on

Sorghum-Chile Glaze:
    3/4 cup sorghum
    1 teaspoon chile de arbol
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Curry Rub:
1/4 cup tablespoons ancho chile powder
    1 tablespoon ground coriander
    1 tablespoon ground cumin
    1 tablespoon ground fennel
    1 tablespoon kosher salt
    1 tablespoon ground turmeric
    1 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom
    1 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground chile de arbol
    1/4 cup canola oil
Special equipment: 1 cup apple or hickory wood chips, soaked in water for at least 2 hours
Angie's Note: Huh? I just used my grill.

Directions

For the chicken thighs: Bring 4 cups water, salt and sugar to a boil in a medium saucepan. Cook until the salt and sugar dissolve, about 2 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat and cool completely. Put the chicken in a bowl and add the cooled brine. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes and up to 1 hour. Remove the chicken from the brine, rinse well and pat dry.

Meanwhile, for the sorghum-chile glaze: Combine 1 tablespoon water, the sorghum, chile de arbol and sprinkle with salt and pepper over low heat in a small saucepan. Cook the glaze until syrupy. Set aside 1/3 cup glaze.

For the curry rub: Combine the ancho chile, coriander, cumin, fennel, salt, turmeric, cardamom, cloves, pepper and chile de arbol in a small bowl. Rub each chicken thigh with some of the spice rub and brush with the oil.

Prepare the kettle grill or smoker for indirect grilling, with medium-high heat over the coals. Put the chicken skin-side down over the direct heat and cook until just crsipy, about 5 minutes. Flip the chicken and cook, about 2 minutes. Transfer the chicken to a platter.

Scatter the apple wood chips over the coals. Return the chicken to the grill over the indirect heat. Cover the grill. Cook the chicken between 250 and 275 degrees F, until a thermometer inserted in the chicken registers 160 degrees F, 45 to 50 minutes. At about 30 minutes, brush the chicken with some of the sorghum-chile glaze. Just before removing the chicken from the grill, brush with more of the sorghum-chile glaze again.

Transfer the chicken to a platter and drizzle some of the reserved sorghum-chile glaze on top.
