College Football Game Day Predictions

Week 6 2012

Let's start as always, with Bill with Bill's BIG 10 CORNER and see what he has to say about this week's Big 10 games...
Not very good predicting vs the spread last week (2-3), will try to improve this week (pointspreads in parenthesis):

Michigan State (-15.5) at Indiana – Let’s go with Mich St to cover in this game bouncing back from a tough loss to Ohio St.

NW at Penn St (-3) – Should be an interesting game, I am going to go with NW and the points (NW could be 6-0 for first time since 1962).

Illinois at Wisconsin (-14.5) – Illinois has not shown well this year. Wisconsin to win big.

Michigan (-3) at Purdue – Both teams have losses to Notre Dame this year. Going with Michigan to win by more than 3 based on their (11-2) record last year.

Game of the week:

Nebraska at Ohio St (-3)
– Both teams pulled out close wins last week. I am going to take Urban Meyer to win by more than 3 at home.

Looking ahead next week ………… Iowa at Michigan St

Okay now let's see what Wisconsin Steve is predicting for WISCONSIN...
WISCONSIN STEVE'S PREDICTION

WISCONSIN 35 ILLINOIS 14

There's no doubt that this isn't the same Wisconsin team we're use to seeing. They're above .500 at 3-2, but they haven't really blown anyone away. They got by Northern Iowa by only 5 points at home, and beat UTEP by 11. Both of these teams are 1-4 this season. Their other win was a scare at home against Utah State, where the Aggies missed a 37 yard field goal with seconds remaining to help Wisconsin hold on to the win. That game doesn't surprise me though. Utah State is a very solid team. You might remember me talking about them a bit after we played Louisiana Tech. Those two teams will be competing for the WAC title.

The Badgers did play better in their Big Ten opener, losing only by three points on the road to top 25 Nebraska, but it's safe to say this team is still trying to find itself. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

Illinois, quite frankly, has looked bad the last couple of weeks. The offense/special teams has made a habit of giving the ball away (nine turnovers in two games), while the defense hasn't figured out how to stop anyone. It makes you wonder when this team will be competitive enough to win a game since they haven't looked good since week one (I'm not counting that Charleston Southern thing that happened). A lot can happen in a week, so maybe a trip away from Memorial Stadium is what this team needs to finally click. Nathan Scheelhaase should no longer have any rust on him, so here's hoping he can go out there and have a solid game. He's due for one. Here's hoping we can finally get a running game going. If we have to throw 46 passes again you can forget about winning. And here's hoping our defense can either take the ball away, or give Wisconsin's punter a lot of work to do.

Unfortunately, nothing I've seen in the last two weeks makes me think all of this will happen. While one facet of the game might go well, I can't see all three parts playing well together, and you have to have that if you want to win on the road in the Big Ten.

What do you guys think? Is it bounce back time for Illinois, or do the Badgers take advantage of a struggling team? Guess we will find out soon....have a great weekend football friends......... Wisconsin Steve

Drats!! Angie didn't get these predictions posted until Saturday morning and the UTAH Utes of the Pac-12 played USC last night. Well, let's see how Red 5 Standing By did with his predicting....
The Utah Utes have now had nearly two weeks to reflect on their embarrassing loss to Arizona State, and the Pac 12 road doesn’t get any easier when the Utes host USC tonight on ESPN. The combination of some injuries and some off-season shake-ups in the offensive coaching staff have made points hard to come by for the Utes, which was expected. But the very mediocre play of the defense so far was not expected, and I look for the Trojans to control the line of scrimmage and put up some points. While the Utes might get up to play the Trojans (last year’s game in the Coliseum was decided by a last second blocked field goal), I’m not optimistic. USC 42, Utah 10.

Okay, final score last night was
USC 38   Utes 28. Not bad, not bad...

Now onto the Big 12 and TEXAS. BEVO jr, what's up with your game this week?.....
BEVO jr – Holy-moley, Austin is being invaded by a slew of Mountaineer’s! Welcome to the Big 12, W. VA.These W. Virginia fans really travel big; you can’t swing a dead cat w/o hitting someone wearing blue & gold. This game should be full of fireworks with multi-talented Geno Smith and his arsenal of TD makers in town. Longhorns have to figure a way to at least slow him down. Oh well, I’m still a ‘homer’; Texas wins 41 – 35. Hook ‘em Horns!

Okay, that's all the predictions that came in this week.

If you or someone you know has thoughts or a prediction on your favorite college team,
feel free to send 'em in to me (Angie) at salesturnkeyauto@aol.com by Thursday night of that week.
They can be five words or five paragraphs long, doesn't matter.
Just submit a fan blog name too "ie Bevo jr" and we'll get 'em posted on Friday!
