Oh Crap, Not another Hot Dog Post!!! Hot Dogs a la Rose.

7/17/2012

Yes, wee ones, this IS another
Hot Dog Post.
Which should endlessly entertain my mother and mother-in-law who are both cra-zeeeeeee about hot dogs.

Doesn't this Hot Dogs a la Rose dish look wonderful though below?

Picture
Oh sorry! It did look wonderful until I ate it.
Once again, I was only going to take a picture because I am not a big hot dog person.

But then I ate it after I took the pictures.

I think I must be a hot dog person.

Okay,
here's what this India-inspired Hot Dog a la Rose dish looked like after just ONE bite.

It's sauteed, spicy hot dogs in a pita pocket!

And these are the fixins for Hot Dogs a la Rose.

Except I didn't have any garam marsala spice!
And my grocery store doesn't carry it.

So...what to do?
What to do?
What to do?
Well, I put on my thinking cap to aid me in in my
garam marsala spice predicament.

Picture
NO!!!! Crap. Wrong cap!!
I meant my THINKING cap.

Picture
Wrong again! That's my feathered cap!
Now THIS one is my thinking cap!

Picture
Um,
or not.

Let me look a little further...just a minute...

TA-DAA
Picture
BINGO!!! My thinking cap! YAY!
So anyway I put my thinking cap on and it occurred to me, maybe my store has one of those McCormick variety spice packs...you know, they're kind of newer and are located in the spice aisle...And guess what...

Picture

BINGO again...looky loo!!!
They did!

I flipped the package over and sure enough...

Picture
Garam Marsala!!!!!
YAY!

Yay Angie, it's your birthday.
Gonna partay.
Like it's my birthday. Even though it's not really.
 My birthday.

Yeah, so anyway, this dish calls for fresh grated ginger so get yer ginger out of the freezer and grate some up.

Here's the recipe....By the way, not sure if little kiddos will be thrilled with this recipe, it's pretty spicy. Adults will love it though.

Chop up the onions, tomatoes, cilantro, mince the garlic and ginger and shred the carrots.
Picture

But of course, chop up the hot dogs too.

Put the onions, carrots, ginger and garlic in an oiled pan and begin to saute.

Add the salt and pepper...

Picture

And of course add the spices in...the garam marsala, turmeric and paprika.

Continue with the diced tomatoes and the ketchup.
Ketchup.
Kills me. :)

Picture
Throw in the hot diggity  dogs.

Picture

Be sure to add water if the mixture looks too dry.

Picture

Cover and cook on medium-low for 15 minutes.

Enjoy the aroma, it makes the kitchen smell fabulous.

Take the lid off and look at this!!
Those spices are absolutely fantastic. I kept picking at the hot dogs and eating them. And I don't even like hot dogs much.

Okay, get your pita ready....

Picture

Fill up that whole wheat pita with this hot dog goodness.

Never thought I would ever use those words; hot dog goodness.

Spicy, tasty and different is what this
hot dog dish is.

Each bite is different, several layered flavors.
Even Tim kept picking out some pieces to eat.

Hey everyone, that's all I got!
Stay cool today!

Have a good Tuesday and we'll chat again soon and I swear it won't be about hot dogs :):):)!!
